Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking to add an Environmental Engineer for our Annapolis Junction, MD office. Our business focuses primarily on providing professional and technical services in engineering design, code consultation, and construction phase services for a wide variety of clients both in the private and public sectors. We execute large and complex engineering projects and provide a comprehensive range of professional planning and design, systems engineering and technical assistance, program and construction management, and operations and maintenance services.

This position is expected to begin as soon as possible.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • To perform specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.

  • To gather and correlate basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.

  • Perform site visits to client facilities to collect data for oil tank spill prevention and response plans.

  • Support a senior engineer with the preparation of oil tank spill prevention and response plans and hazardous waste contingency plans.

  • Assist with fuel tank replacement engineering designs.

  • Aviation sector site work related to environmental compliance and engineering tasks.

  • Support PFAS assessments including site investigation, remedial options assessments, PFAS waste management, and foam system decontamination.

  • To perform oversight of field service subcontractors and supervise ground investigation and remediation works.

  • To collect and evaluate soil and groundwater samples/data during assessment and remedial action activities at various sites.

  • To ensure that health and safety issues are addressed throughout the life of a project.

  • Environmental sampling and options evaluations and problem definition.

  • Equipment specifications, construction oversight, system troubleshooting, and optimization.

  • Assist with report preparation and other related tasks.

  • Assist with preparing conceptual and detailed design packages (construction drawings and technical specifications).

  • Supporting calculations and work plans in support of environmental remediation system designs.

  • The position involves local travel to project sites to collect samples, oversee remediation construction contractors, gather information, and present results of study and design work.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.

  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.

  • As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review and a substance abuse test.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge in practical application of engineering concepts, basic chemistry, and MS Office Applications.

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation, and/or GIS.

  • Solid attention to detail and thorough approach to work with the ability to understand/comply with the big picture/goals of a project.

  • Possesses strong logic skills.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills; comfortable meeting with clients, colleagues, and sub-contractors alike.

  • Flexible with working hours and locations, frequent travel within 1 – 2-hour drive of home office and occasionally further.

  • Excellent written and verbal skills (in English); fluency in other languages is an advantage.

  • Strong quality and time management and ability to multi-task

  • Self-starter, develops and delivers work under own initiative.

  • EIT.

  • This role will involve travel to project sites around Annapolis Junction, MD and surrounding area. Knowledge and experience navigating Annapolis Junction, MD, and surrounding area a plus.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $48,915.12 - $67,258.28.
