We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Chicago for a Senior Program Manager on our Scientific Publication team. This is a hybrid position reporting into our Chicago, IL office, requiring 2-3 days a week in the office.

As a Senior Program Manager, Manage a portfolio of programs and initiatives including JAMA Summit TM to amplify JAMA’s global thought leadership in important and strategic areas to JAMA such as clinical trials research, artificial intelligence, and gun violence prevention. Working across JAMA Editorial and Publishing teams, lead development of key programs from conception to execution managing multiple workstreams and committees including, scientific program development, marketing, fund raising, and communications. Grow and strengthen JAMA Summit’s global brand and drive development and execution of other strategic initiatives.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Development and Management

  • Develop and implement plans to ensure the continued success and growth of the JAMA Summit and corresponding programs– this includes marketing, audience engagement, communications, and dissemination plans.

  • Drive and facilitate the design and implementation of each project plan including defining processes and systems for project execution, creating project charters, and workplans, setting goals, task coordination, and developing and implementing evaluation and dissemination strategies.

  • Drive, monitor, and align work plans across multiple complex workstreams to ensure all milestones are met on time, with high quality, to budget, and to expectations; ensure efficient and effective project delivery.

  • Proactively identify barriers to successful execution of programs and propose solutions; ensure contingency plans are in place; communicate concerns and risks to VP and Editor in Chief and other team members, as appropriate.

  • Establish metrics and evaluation criteria to measure the success and impact of each program.

  • Track and report on program progress data-driven insights to drive continuous improvement.

  • Identify potential risks and challenges associated with the programs and envelop risk mitigation strategies to ensure smooth execution.

  • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop and implement comprehensive marketing and promotional strategies to drive awareness, attendance, and engagement for Summit and its post Summit products.

  • Identify trends and opportunities with programs such as JAMA Summit. Use insights to inform strategy and planning in all aspects from engagement to dissemination and participant experience.

  • Develop and manage event budgets effectively, including fundraising opportunities, expense tracking and financial reporting.

  • Lead the development and execution of contracts and agreements with vendors, consultants, and partners; serve as the primary relationship manager with vendors to build strong relationships and assure contracts are executed and timelines are met or revised, as necessary.

    Strategic Initiatives Development

  • In close collaboration with the Editor in Chief of VP Planning and Operations, develop plans and support execution of key strategic initiatives including strengthening JAMA’s presence and programs globally.

  • Conduct market research and analysis to identify trends, competitive landscape, and audience preferences to inform strategies to grow and strengthen JAMA’s brand in key global markets. Translate insights into actionable plans to drive growth and differentiation.

  • Lead design and planning for key global outreach events collaborating with internal teams and external partners.

  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to promote JAMA content, campaigns, and activations across various channels, including digital, social media, print, and events.

  • Drive funding/sponsorship opportunities for global events and programs. Collaborate with publishing and other teams across AMA to coordinate efforts.

    Relationship Management

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including special guests, keynote speakers, sponsors, partners, and other important attendees.

  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to maximize participation and support for JAMA Summit.

    May include other responsibilities as assigned

    REQUIREMENTS:

    1. Bachelor’s degree required, MBA degree preferred

    2. 7+ years of relevant experience in program development, project management, brand marketing preferred; experience within scholarly publishing environments required.

    3. Demonstrated experience with operational planning, implementation, and evaluation of multiple, complex projects including, convening project teams, organizing multi-faceted project plans, managing towards established timelines and project deliverables

    4. Demonstrated experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and able to effectively communicate updates from insights from meetings to team members to ensure alignment

    5. Demonstrated experience managing high-level external advisory boards and/or experience with senior medical experts, policymakers, executives, etc. required.

    6. Demonstrated analytical and data-driven approach to issues; able to measure the impact of programs

    7. Ability to work with individuals from different disciplines, contributing as a team member, as well as being self-motivated and a strong individual contributor

    8. Excellent oral and written communications skills required. Ability to conduct literature searches and strong writing skills required to produce summaries in written format and strong facilitation, presentation, and public speaking skills required, including experience presenting in a large group setting (both virtual and in-person)

    9. Some travel required
