The role you’ll contribute:

The Medical Assistant II, under general supervision, provides appropriate care to patients and trains externs, new hires, & department coworkers to provide optimal patient care; acts as a role model by practicing excellent customer service skills, participating team member and patient safety and quality initiatives to promote a culture of safety. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

Quality/Infection Prevention Track

o If quality/infection prevention MA track is taken, must complete required amount of hand hygiene audits every year, and completed required education.

o Must maintain education requirements for position and demonstrate competency, as required.

Preceptor

o Serves as the trainer, effective mentor and educational resource to staff with emphasis on training externs’ students from partnership colleges, newly hired team members and coworkers within the department.

o Participates in educating staff and/or students in the practice on correct clinical skills techniques

o Must receive positive evaluations, complete required online education and in-person skills competencies, stay active on communication from education department manager, and attend quarterly education meetings.

o Accepts preceptor and new hire training assignments. Assignment declination may only be due to scheduled PDO.

Front Office Duties

o Reviews appointment bookings in advance and ensure patients receive appointment reminders.

o Verify and validate insurance prior to appointment date.

o Maintains timely flow of patients and keep patients up to date of any delays.

Clinical Duties

o Rooms patient and completes screenings, history taking, vital signs, medication reconciliation, and other relevant intake needs.

o Prepares the patient and room for physical assessment or procedure.

o Completes Point of Care Test and phlebotomy as ordered.

o Assists with procedures such as EKG, ear lavage, vaccines, injectables, wound care, vision, and hearing tests.

Leadership

o Participates in identifying needs in clinic workflows and assists as needed

o Assists with teaching new clinical staff during their onboarding period

Other

o Maintains medication safely by monitoring refrigerator and freezer temperatures.

o Navigate Quality Dashboards to identify performance opportunities

o Must be willing to float to other AdventHealth Medical practices, within reason, when patient load, vacation schedules etc. make it necessary.

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:

· Minimum qualifications :

o High school graduate or equivalent required.

o Graduate of a Medical Assistant program.

o Current, valid CPR certification (American Heart Association BLS).

o Completed required Medical Assistant I track - both Quality and Preceptor

o 1 year of practical medical assisting experience AND one of the medical assistant certifications listed below:

o Must be currently certified and maintain certification by one of the following:

o American Association of Medical Assistants (“AAMA”) for Certified Medical Assistants

o American Medical Certification Association (“AMCA”) for Clinical Medical Assistant Certification

o American Medical Technologists (“AMT”) for Registered Medical Assistant

o National Association for Health Professionals (“NAHP”) for Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant

o National Center for Competency Testing (“NCCT”) for National Certified Medical Assistant

o National Certification Medical Association (“NCMA”) for Registered Clinical Medical Assistant Specialist

o National Health Career Association (“NHA”) for Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)

· Knowledge and Skills Required:

o Must be familiar with Quality metrics.

o Knowledge of health care field and medical terminology.

o Knowledge of chronic disease management.

o Knowledge of and ability to utilize internal and external resources.

o Expertise in patient advocacy and navigating complex systems.
